Meghan Payment Name of Nominee: Jennifer Cimeus Name of Sponsoring Organization: The Door Youth Centre Age: 17 J ennifer has been volunteering at The Door for more than a year for no other reason than just to help out in any capacity possible. Jennifer goes above and beyond her volunteer's duties to ensure the staff members are getting the assistance needed at the centre; through giving her time at the reception desk, cleaning up after dinner or help organizing events. Jennifer is also one of the first people who would volunteer her time to be part of any community event that is in need for help. She has participated in all of The Door's community events such as seasonal City clean up and the restorations of Chinatown Murals. As an active participant during all fundraisers her positive and optimistic outlook really keeps the morale high in the centre. She is someone who makes the youth centre a better and brighter place and is liked by all of the staff, volunteers and youth. Her biggest assistance occurs when she participates in programs and workshops at the centre. She is always someone ready to take charge whether that is taking a leadership role during their Girls Night Program or helping facilitate other programs and coming up with ideas. Jennifer has well over the forty minimum required hours by the Ontario school board and instead continues volunteering at The Door due to the sheer enjoyment she gains. Jennifer said that The Door has really helped her in coming out of her shell and become a more outgoing person. Her favourite programs at The Door are Tuesday Arts Night and their Girls Nights. The staff and youth all view Jennifer as a positive role model and ambassador in her community. She also volunteers at a retirement home, the library, and a food bank. However, Jennifer says her favourite place to volunteer is The Door since here she is able to be with friends, have opportunities that she wouldn't normally know about and as well as receive mentoring from the youth centre staff. YCC would like to wish her luck next year in going to university in Florida. Jennifer is well deserving of the title of Youth Centre Champion and we can't wait to see what she does next.
