Adam Gariepy , President/Acting CEO What a journey it has been for me, joining Youth Centres Canada over 3 years ago as a board member after being involved with the organization for many years prior to joining through my capacity as Executive Director of a Youth Centre in Canada. I work with the following motto in mind: to strive to do better than the day before for all of the youth and youth serving agencies we serve. I enjoy celebrating the fact that the work we do helps to support thousands of youth nation wide. In my off time I enjoy tennis, biking, country music and country fairs, the SENS (truly the only good NHL team), volunteering, concerts, Pizza and Poutine, my home town, and my puppy – Teddy! I bring a wealth of knowledge, skills and training in youth service work to this position. I have a deep passion for community involvement and I actively volunteer with many organizations locally, provincially and nationally. I am excited to continue my journey with YCC because the more we increase the active participation and partnership with young people, the better we serve them, and the more comprehensively we work with them as service partners, the more we increase our public value to the entire community. Moffat Makuto , Treasurer Moffat Makuto has worked with the Regional Multicultural Youth Council (RMYC) since it was formed in 1985 as a legacy of the United Nations International Youth Year to link and provide a voice for young people across Northwestern Ontario. He went on to establish the Multicultural Youth Centre in Thunder Bay in 1990 to provide a safe space for children and youth to hang-out, have fun, support each other, and access resources, supports, advise and information to help them make wise choices and responsible decisions. Will White , Vice President Will began working with youth in 2013 at the Youth 2000 Centre through the government of Newfoundland and Labrador's Linakages program as a Youth Worker, and later was promoted to the Programs and Promotions Coordinator Position. He developed a strong passion for youth and the issues they face in today's society from his first hand experience working with youth from various walks of life. His hopes are that by engaging youth and allowing them to be heard, we can work in the right direction and some day greatly reduce or eliminate these issues. Will has been part of Youth Centres Canada's Board of Directors since 2015, serving as Chair of the membership committee (2015-present), Treasurer (2016), and presently serving as Vice Chair (2017). Apart from his involvement with YCC, Will enjoys engaging in different committees and organizations that he sees a large value in, these include the National Youth Advisory Committee (CAMH), the Young Canadians Roundtable on Health (Sandbox Project) and Telus Wise (Telus). Throughout high school, Hailey was engaged with the Leadership Committee, the Social Action Committee and worked on LGBTQ initiatives. Hailey recently joined the board of Youth Centres Canada in May 2017 because she felt as though youth centres played an important role in today's society and wanted to be more involved in supporting these types of organizations in the work they aim to accomplish. 6 Mandate: YCC works to encourage, support and advocate for youth through youth groups, organizations and youth centres in all communities by supporting and facilitating knowledge transfer and program development. YCC recognizes youth as citizens with rights and responsibilities who are able to make contributions through active engagement, community participation and partnerships that support meaningful decision-making affecting their lives.
