CIMVHR FORUM 2017 September 25-27 Toronto, Ontario An Unprecedented Year for Military and Veteran Health Research This September in Toronto, CIMVHR will host an unprecedented Forum for Military, Veteran and Family health research - with more research presented, more stakeholders in attendance, and some great changes that will make 2017 our best Forum yet! NEW THIS YEAR A Focused Scientific Showcase -- Monday, September 25 Uninterrupted time to take in the research being presented by poster. Networking Reception – Tuesday, September 26 Instead of a formal dining event, CIMVHR is hosting a more casual networking reception for enhanced networking opportunities where delegates can meet, connect, learn and of course enjoy some delicious food and refreshments. After the reception, everyone will be free to enjoy the city, or take in some of the Invictus Games Toronto 2017. Pre AND Post Research Theme Networking Groups (RTWG) Surveys from Forum 2016 informed us about the need for delegates to hold conversations before and after hearing the research presented at Forum – so this year when you sign up for a RTWG, you get access to both sessions that bookend the FORUM. Our Scientific Review Committee received nearly 250 abstract submissions – a record number for CIMVHR. This, paired with the excitement surrounding the Invictus Games Toronto 2017, is setting the stage for what will be an unforgettable learning and networking event for all of us who are dedicated to the health needs of Canadian military personnel, Veterans, and their families. SHOULDER TO SHOULDER 7 FINANCIAL COMMITTEE REPORT It was my pleasure to be in Ottawa for our Friends of Veterans Luncheon and to attend the Annual General Meeting in April. The numbers at the luncheon were down since the Vimy celebration in France was at the same time but many of our usual guests were in attendance there. It was nice to renew old friendships and make new ones all at the same. We were presented our Review Engage- ment by our accountants prior to the AGM. We appear to be in reasonably good financial position considering the large expense we incurred due to not meeting our contracted room agreement for the 2016 convention. There was a loss for the year in the convention account but with good office management we were able to minimize operating expenses and came out with a small gain overall. We have lost our office assistant and are trying to fill this position again but with the minimum wage increase that Kathlyn Wynne has put in place we will have to increase the amount of their starting wage. This is something we had not planned on or could foresee and will have to be dealt with at the Officers and Directors meeting in October. It looks like our Directors meeting will be October 19 – 22 in London, Ontario I can't wait to see all the officers and directors then. Until we meet again I wish everyone a great summer and good health. Shoulder to Shoulder, Paul Hooper, Dominion Vice President Chair, Dominion Financial Committee
