4 WHO WE ARE Youth Centres Canada is a national non-profit organization that works with and for youth and youth centres to facilitate inclusion of all youth. We do this by working through community youth centres to provide training, resources and networking opportunities for youth across the country. MANDATE Youth Centres Canada works to encourage, support and provide information and training to youth and youth groups in rural areas, towns, communities and small cities in Canada. Youth Centres Canada recognizes youth as citizens with rights, responsibilities, able to make contributions through active community involvement, participation, partnerships, and meaningful decision- making that affects their lives. VISION We envision strong and accredited youth centres in every community across the country working cooperatively in regional chapters linking to a vibrant, nationally and internationally recognized organization: Youth Centres Canada. Making available to you: • Expertise • Services • Resources • Workshops • Conferences Will White: I am proud to be writing this bio as the CEO of Youth Centres Canada. I have served different roles on the board since getting involved in 2015 and it has taught me so much. It's exciting to see how the youth and the organizations that serve them are constantly improving their community along with their country. I began my work with youth at a local youth centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, where I discovered my passion and from there it continued to grow. Since I began at the Youth 2000 Centre I have been involved with many initiatives revolving around youth mental health, violence prevention and really just anything I can find to dip my hands into. I look forward to working with more youth and youth centre staff/volunteers going forward into the future and learning about all the amazing things that are happening. If you would like to reach out to me please don't hesitate! Give me a call at (800) 429-6615. I would love to discuss youth issues, initiatives, or how YCC can better support your organization. Whitney Roberts: Hey everyone! My name is Whitney Roberts and this is my first time working with Youth Centres Canada. I am a 20 year old student from Grand Falls - Windsor, Newfoundland. Working as Membership Services Coordi- nator has gave me the opportunity to connect with so many youth organizations from all across Canada! I am also working as #Youth Magazine Editor for the issues of 2018. I'm very interested in Community Studies - particularly youth services and Fine Arts so this job has been so inspiring! Having the chance to share my creativity with you has been an honour! I love connecting with youth centres and being able to help them better their youth. ON THE COVER: Shellsea is but one of the "Unsung Heros" of Building Bridges Youth Theatre Group and Karma Kafe and Find Junque. As a writer, baker, and artist she wears many hats within her involvement with this team. We believe the work of Shellsea and the rest of the Building Bridges team in the rural community of New-Wes-Valley connects strongly with the values YCC was founded on and they are a clear indication that if we give youth the tools and freedom to succeed, their impact can be far greater than we could ever imagine.
