6 T ELUS WISE ® is free educational program that empowers Canadians to have a positive experience as digital citizens and can be leveraged by Youth Centres across the country. Made possible by multiple partners including the Canadian Associ- ation of Chiefs of Police, MediaSmarts, PREVNet, Canadian Centre for Child Protection, Cybertip.ca, the Amanda Todd Legacy, and the WE organization, the program has garnered over 3.5 million engagements by Canadians since its inception in 2013. Interactive and informative workshops and online resources are available in both English and French; topics include Internet, smartphone and social media safety, online privacy, online reputation management, identity theft protection, responsible technology use and more. Additionally, a key area of focus is on empowering youth, parents and educators to rise above cyberbullying. There are 5 workshops available for youth, adults and seniors, outlined below: FOR YOUTH TELUS WISE ® footprint for elementary school students (Grades 2-6) helps young people learn how to be good digital citizens and keep their digital footprint clean. The program explores the notion of doing the right thing online, how to deal with cyberbullying, and more. TELUS WISE ® impact engages middle school and junior high students (Grades 6-9) in a conversation around cyberbullying, helping them explore and understand different options for safe and appropriate ways of inter- vening when they witness cruel behaviour online. TELUS WISE ® in control engages middle school, junior high and high school students (Grades 7-12) in a discussion about cyberbullying, identity theft, protecting and positively growing their online reputation and more. The program presents a series of digital literacy scenarios that illustrate the do's and don'ts and tips and tricks of managing your online reputation and personal brand. FOR ADULTS TELUS WISE ® for adults, parents, caregivers and educators offers a variety of Internet, smartphone and social media tips and presents considerations for parenting in a digital society. TELUS WISE ® seniors engages Canadian seniors in a discussion about getting the most of participating in our growing digital society, safely. TELUS WISE ® AMBASSADORS The success of the program hinges on TELUS WISE ® Ambassadors who volunteer their time delivering workshops in their communities. The Ambassador community consists of TELUS employees, retirees, and select members from the community including individuals who work with youth and Police School Resource Officers. Staff at member organizations of Youth Centres of Canada are encouraged to consider getting trained as Ambassadors, enabling them to share important information about digital safety with the youth they support. Ambassador training time varies from three to six hours, depending on the programs being trained on. Adult volunteers are required to get a criminal record check before delivering TELUS WISE ® workshops. YOUTH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM FOR GRADES 9-12 Youth in Grades 9-12 are also encouraged to participate in the program as Youth Ambassadors, taking advantage of an opportunity to not only give back, but also earn volunteer hours, gain valuable experience, and practice public speaking skills. Youth Ambassadors are trained to facilitate TELUS WISE ® footprint and TELUS WISE ® seniors workshops over a 3 hour period, and are asked to deliver four workshops per year.
